This is my first post. I am looking for information on the most appropriate antenna to replace the one I have that just died.
I currently have an Engenius 3220+ (now dead) hooked to a Netgear wireless router (wireless part turned off) hooked to a DSL modem.
I would like to get another antenna that uses an ethernet cord to tie into the router like my current antenna does. This would save me a lot of work trying to run a different cord through the wall/roof and into the room where the equipment is.
My wifi serves our 4 vacation rental cabins which are all located in the same neighborhood and mixed in among other cabins. The furthest cabin is 245 away. Two of the cabins could be served with a 45 degree spread signal. The third cabin, which is right next door, would need to be served with an antenna that has a side lobe shooting 90 degrees to the side.
The neighborhood has a lot of large trees between the houses and along the road. In addition, during the winter, the cabins get partially if not fully buried by snow. Last winter, my first winter with this setup, I lost signal in one of the cabins and I think the snow is to blame. Also, if it makes a difference, all the cabins have metal roofs.
Does anyone have a recommendation on an antenna to do at least, hopefully better job, that my current antenna?
I have a jpg file I made of the neighborhood but it is too large to attach to my post.
