Question Gettin' off of the landline

I want to get off of the landline, so I bought a Gigaset One that runs through the bluetooth of my cell phone. When connected a regular old house phone is powered just like it is plugged into the wall, dial tone and all. So then why won't my credit card terminal operate over this.
