I'm having problems with an old computer that I've just fitted a new hard drive to. The main problem is that the BIOS is so old that it doesn't support cd booting. While searching for help I found a forum posting that said that Smart Boot Manager could sort the problem because it could be setup to boot from CD.
The first version that I downlowded said that it had to be run from windows (not possible as the disk is blank!). I then search the site where I dowloaded SBM for a version that could be launched in DOS. This produced "sbminst.exe" and "cwsdpmi.exe".
After a lot of head scratching I think that I got it load properly by typing "sbminst.exe -d 128".
The problems started coming when I restarted the computer and I didn't get the program that I thought that I would, I got the SBMK BAD! error. I also discovered that it had put a partition on the disc.
I've tryed typing in "sbminst.exe -u" as I thought this was how to uninstall it. I've also used "fdisk.exe" to remove the partition, but every time I restart the computer they come back.
This lead me to formating the hard disk and starting again. This also didn't work.
Sorry this has been a long posting but I thought it would go better with all the facts.
Is there anyone that can help me remove sbminst from my computer and sort out the problem?
Thanks
Glen
