Default How to Cover large aera ?

Hi all,

We want to cover our land with wireless network.
We want to equip our employe with mobile handled computer, this is why we want wireless network on our entire land.

Currently we have TrendNet AP with 15dbi omni antenna but the signal is not enough powerful to cover our land.

In the attached picture, our land is inside the red line.
The yellow points are the office with network cable and power
The green point have power outlets
We have some trees on the land.

Our land is around 0.68 miles square (1.1km) (from up to down).

Does it's possible to do it ?
Which hardware to buy ?

Thanks you

you cover large areas with a mesh network. If I needed enterprise grade gear I would use Proxim Orinoco Dual Radio Architecture.

Proxim Wireless - ORiNOCOŽ Wi-Fi Mesh Series

You need to use directional antennas use the eoc2611p units with the built in directional aim at the areas where you most need the coverage I woudl say 3 units should cover most of your are a

more info on the eoc2611p here:

on the client side they will need a stronger adapter the eub9603h is a long range up to 1 mile USB adapter works wil windows and mac. CAT actually uses this adapter at the proving grounds to upload date from the machines.

It is quite possible just you have to have a better wireless router which would send the wireless signals to a larger area but if you don't have that you can use multiple routers for achieving the same.

Mulitple APs in a mesh or wds configuration would be a good way to go for a project like this. One thing to keep in mind is wireless is a lot like sound, both devices need to be able to hear each other in order to communicate. So trying to cover a large area with one AP and high gain antenna may provide signal to a large area but when you have small handheld devices that are not high power and do not have high gain antennas, they do not have the power to talk back to the AP, thus the reason for multiple APs.

In most cases I recommend sector/panel antennas over omni directional antennas as well, not only will sector/panel antennas provide higher gain but they will also help to cut down on noise and interference being picked up.

As mentioned by another member above Proxim is a good choice, they have an out door ready AP, AP-4000-MR-LR. Its a dual radio so you can use one radio (2.4 GHz) for distribution to your handheld devices and the second radio (5.8 GHz) to mesh the APs to each other.

Btw, what handheld devises are you using?

I suggest you to use any good quality of wireless system which can transmit and revive signals in a better way and multiple APs are a good solution.
