How to increase signal distance cheap.

Hi, i use my neighbours Internet, they got some Linksys Wi-Fi hardware. I can only get decent signal at kitchen, can i install some repeater (to pickup signal from air) or another laptop (i got two) to pick up signal and send trough with wireless router to the rest of my house.

Right now i trying to find cheapest way i don't have any repeater or router yet, all i got is two laptops with Wi-Fi cards.

P.S. Should i check what standard (IEEE) network uses to make sure i buy right hardware, how i do it?

You can try using a wi-fi adapter. I use the Wi-Fire from hField Technologies and it helps me connect to many more wireless hotspots at a strong signal strength. It should help you especially if your neighbor is right next to you.
