You'd need an external antenna at minimum, something along the avenue of a 'grid' antenna. This is IF your router accepts external antenna connections. You'd need a similar receiving antenna at the other end of this 2km. If it doesn't accept an antenna, then you'll need some outdoor access points. All of this is dependent upon a clear line of sight to the other point. no trees/hills/buildings, etc. Height may help, if it clears the obstacles.
It can be done, providing the terrain allows it.

thank you but the problem is that this is a wooded area so trees are abundant the remotes are all portable and can not be hooketo an antenae the are basically laptops with wireless capablities so the signal must be able to be received within 1 km of base through the trees that is why I have opted for a 2 mile radius that should provide a strong enough signal for a 1 km range. that is why I also specified that the wireless router was Dlink DWL 3200A I dont know if it will take an external antennae or even how to hook one up to it. Thank you for your advice maybe someone can expand on it

More routers.

Trees got leaves, leaves got water, water absorbs power at wireless frequencies. More power at one place would just mean a concentration of warm leaves.

I would use a mesh. Proxim if you have unlimited funds, freifunk if you have very limited funds.
