Default LinkSys WAP11-turned-DWL-700AP questions.

Yeah, goin' old-school here... I recently "inherited" one of these toys (v2.8 hardware) and set about trying to find out what I could do with it. Fair bit of OLD information and threads, but I fear it's so old it will be hard to find anyone currently who can help with with a couple questions on it. But, this seemed like the best place to start, so...

I'd really love to use this thing as an AP client to give an IP camera a wireless connection to my network, but I don't have another supported LinkSys for it to talk to... to that end, I flashed it with the DWL-700AP firmware, which seems to be working initially. If I leave it as a standard AP plugged into my network, my laptop connects to it fine.

I tried changing it to Wireless Client mode and hit the Site Survey button... it found my DIR-655's Guest Zone and appeared to connect to it; the DIR-655's MAC now shows in the Remote AP box. However, it doesn't show up in the DIR's wireless client list at all. (Strange side thing: the "Site Survey" page shows "DWL-900AP+" on the title bar...?). It seems to know that it's in client mode, as it won't let me enable the DHCP server or change it to acquire a dynamic IP itself, both stating that those modes are not supported when running as a Wireless Client.

In assorted other googling, I found a recommendation that I lock the Authentication (on the Performance page) to use Open System rather than Auto to deal with wireless problems, but all that did was cause the web configs to lock up... don't know if that's got anything to do with it.

Anyway, figure someone else must have tried this before, and this seemed to be the most likely place to start looking for those people Hoping someone can come up with some ideas... I'm even open to trying different firmwares.

Thanks.
