Here is our problem, hope you have a solution or advice =)
We are trying to bring wifi access to our building. Uncle Sam says our particular building doesnt need it and will not supply the hardware or any advice. Another one of our buildings (approx 250yds away with moderate line-of-sight obstacles) has wifi (unsecured, but we are a VERY secluded area so no worries). No cell coverage here and the landline based internet is super locked down. The wireless is basically restriction free so you see why we want it so much!
I was thinking I could use a WRT54G(S) with DD-WRT (along with some cooling mods) to grab that signal and spread it throughout our building. Would a pair of high gain (10-15db omni) be enough to pick it up reliably? We can get a few bars just outside the building with a cheap booster (7db at most). Or would i need to look into a directional antenna to pick up the host, and an omni to distribute to us? Is that even possible? Im not familiar with using different antennae on the same router.
any other good ideas is appreciated! Looking to keep it under 150 if possible so no crazy high end stuff
don't buy just any wifi device blind, first check specs and then see the customer reviews because at the end of the day, what matters is getting the utility you desired in the first place for which you bought the device.
