Default PC Shuts down when I insert my Wireless USB

Hi guys. This is a strange one. I have a Netgear MA111 Wireless USN Adapter....whenever I insert my USB into the PC my PC shuts down. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem. Have had it working before on the same PC. Am wondering if this usb is conflicting with anything?

Am currently using a wired connection to use the internet but would love to be able to use the Wireless USB again as it was a good bit of kit.

Hope someone can help

Cheers guys

What do you mean by shuts down!!

Does the PC gracefully close all the apps and then shuts down, or does it just turn off without notice?

Regards

Fred

My experience has been hardware failures are usually responsible for spontaneous power-downs. Perhaps your USB adapter has failed.

Let's hope the port hasn't failed and taken the adapter with it. If you have another USB device like a USB mouse you can test the port.

I have sometimes, but it happens while i'm using the USB adapter. I think it's a hardware failure or a problem with the RAM memory.

Please make it clear.

Does your PC shutdown like a normal shutdown or does it shutoff like when you pull the plug from the outlet?

yes, it happens to me sometimes when i do insert
an usb device like : DKU5 cables or bluetooth device,
then after my PC restart, i found a normally condition happens
to that device.
my advice : if u use a usb hub, dont use it to plug to your
wireless usb, try to plug directly to your usb port, expecially
another one usb port (i have 2 phisically usb port in back of my CPU).
coz my problems solved with that tricks.

You have either a bad USB port, or a bad USB controller chip.

Check that there are no physically damaged USB ports. Remember to check front and back. Also check any additional USB hubs you may have plugged in. I've seen it when the VCC, +. or - get grounded out to the shield, the computer turns off or reboots instantly (like if you had pressed the reset button).

If you have no damage, try your suspect USB devices on another computer.

IF all else fails, get a PCI USB card (should be able to be had for about $20). Plug it into your machine and then connect USB items one at a time once you've booted to desktop. Plug no USB devices into anything BUT the new USB card you just installed. If it still powers off or reboots, see if it's one device or a specific set of devices. Replace USB devices as necessary.
