Okay, I have this dongle Philips SNU5600 but I have some problems with it.
1)
I downloaded the lates driver from Philips dated 2007, and it does NOT work on Windows 7.
Any trick to make it work in Windows 7 or do I have to buy a new one?
2)
The driver worked as a dream when I reinstalled Windows XP SP3.
3)
Installed the USB plug in a IKEA WOK with the original built in antenna. Before 0 stations showed up, but now 10 stations at 15% strength with the USB plug inside the WOK shows up. I need more for a stable connection, possibly 30% will do.
4)
Soldered on a SMA plug to experiment with different antennas, will order a
dipole antenna to see it this works better than my IKEA WOK. The WOK was flat in the bottom, so this may reduce the parabolic effect.
5)
Any of you have experience with results with dipole compared to wok?
I am enclosing some pictures of my re-built dongle. Will test the home-built temporary antenna when I have the chance!
Okay, got 93% signal, opprox the same as before. But now I can connect a cantenna or a dipole.
As I walked outdoor with the cantenna I noticed the following:
4 other networks was transmitting on the same channel as my router!
I mean this can make noise on my channel. So I changed the channel to 4 which was not used by any of the neighbours. I also made a reset of the router (power on/off) I now got much faster surfing speed!
So definitely worth a check to go outdoor to see if any is using your channel.
