Default Questions about Signal booster with a 15 dbi omni antenna.

Hello,

I am a long time reader but this is my first post. =D

In my quest to get the best quality/range wifi link I just bought a 15 dbi omni directionnal antenna from tp-link and i use it with the alfa AWUS036H 1w.

The signal is good but I am looking for better again and i tought about buying a signal booster! But I want to be sure that it will help. Because I heard that a few cases, buying a SB is useless.

to resume..

1. Will a signal booster will help me knowing that I only have 3 meters of cable.

2.If yes, do you guys have a recommendation (model name/number, wattage 100w 200 300 400 500 etc...)

Thank you!

1 watt is the legal max in the U.S.

in theory, government agencies can use 2 watts, but good luck finding that in the laws.

you would have to reduce transmittter power to 500 milliwatts to be legal with a one watt intentional radiator and a 15 dbi antenna.

Thank you for you answer. In fact I live in Canada, I dont know what is the law here.

About my wifi card, I think it is a 500w and they promote it at 1000w including the antenna (maybe i am wrong), but assuming that i am right; Can I use a 500W booster to reach a real 1w?

idk if mwatts adds up.

Also do you think I will see a good difference or it doesnt worth it.

Thanks again

Anyone ? =D

I am thinking about buying the Hawking HSB2 802.11g HiGain Signal Booster (v2) but I want to be sure that it will help me. I dont want to waste money on something that will not work.

It would be apreciate if someone has a word to say about that product, especially if it's plugged to a client wifi card and not an access point.

Thanks

Well as far as the thing goes that it should help, you should consult the signal booster vendor but generally it helps. One of my friends did install it and he has reported a lot of difference in the signal coverage area.

when you add a amplifier it increases noise and retransmits and many times can actually reduce range.

The alfa already has a high power amp built in but a not very good radio.

Your better off starting with a high quality radio like the eub9603h has

Keenan Systems Wireless Store - EnGenius 600mW EUB9603h 802.11bgn USB adapter

keep your pigtail short if its mode than a few inches from the antenan you are again adding noise and loosing signal.
