Quick Setup guide

Does anyone have one? or want to make one?

I currently have a access point in my house and we have 3 laptops with wireless cards.

my friend lives just a little be too far away to have a link using existing gear ( i can login to his wireless if i walk down the road a little bit )

What ariel would i need? and where can you get them?
will it work off a pci card? or do i need to get a AP?

Jump onto IRC and #nzwireless channel.. and ask there you'll get a quick response. Shadow sells aerials.. If you are close.. then thats all you need

What kind of range (line-of-sight) can you legally get without needing resource consent? Is this highly policed? (If I run a powerful directional aerial, will the authorities give a sh1t?)

I have an idea to link between mine and a mates place..

As for line of sight... go for broke as long as you dont go over the db levels in the post above.

But i am sure there arent any police around who would give too much of a rats arse....HOWEVER.... if you throw your signal around willy nilly you will block the sprectrum for other users on the NZwireless network!!
