I just purchased the Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. I have connected succesfully my main computer and my wireless laptop to the router.
Now I would like to know how do I share files and print from my wireless laptop to my main computer and wired printer (HP Laserjet 4)?
Believe it or not, I called Linksys tech support and they had no clue. I was puzzled at first because their ad says it can be done, but no one there could help me. Thats why I came here.
Also, if it has speed-boost, why am I still at 54.0 mbps?
Assuming you are using XP and you have setup your home network on all the clients and made them all part of the same workgroup.
All clients also need their own IP setup as well. Plenty of info on the net with that regard.
From the client you want to share things from (printer)
Click Start
Click Printers and Faxes
Right click over the printer you want to share
Click Sharing
Click Share this printer
A name will automatically be put in
Click Apply
That has now shared your printer. From any other client on the network you should be able to add a new printer, it will be a network attached printer. Just browse for it and it should find it.
To share files just open up your file browser and rightr click over the folder/s you want to share (just like the printer) and your done.
Note: As with all networks if you share a device of any type everyone can get access to it unless you setup some sort of security, particularily on wireless networks. Use WPA security of it is available and it needs to be setup on all the wireless clients as well.
As for the speed issue you can only connect at 54Mb on a G device regardless of anything at all. The GS only works if you have a Linksys GS wireless card as well. In short, a BS sales gimic.
I am running XP Pro. I guess I first need to find out how to link my main computer with my wireless laptop. I for some reason thought that could be done through the router.
I will look into finding out this information if I can.

Yes, your assumption is correct, you can connect PCs/Laptops via your wireless router. However, to allow that to happen you must turn on sharing on the PCs/Laptops you want to share stuff on. The wireless radio in the router just acts as a wireless hub.
