Google 'Alfa Network' and take a look at the different models they offer. I have the AWUS036H with a 9dBi antenna and I can pick up networks for for miles.
What you want to look for when purchasing these is the txpower and the antenna gain. A 1000mW txpower means that it transmits the signal with 1 watt of power (which is very powerful; most computers only transmit with about a quarter of the power). I would say you don't need more than 1000mW unless you really know what you're doing.
When you're picking an antenna, you're going to want to look for the gain amount, which is going to be in dBi (for isometric antenna). If you look on ebay, you'll find some 9dBi antennas for cheap, which are about a foot long. An even better solution would be to look for a directional antenna since these are typically more powerful.
I hope this helps! |
