OK, maybe it's not THAT stupid, or, then again maybe it is. You can decide.
Why, if i buy a Cable/ DSL/ Wireless Router, do I STILL have to have a Cable/ DSL modem? Isn't there some all-in-one wonder box so I don't have to clutter up my desk? And what's the difference in the Cable/ DSL/ Wireless Router and any other plain old Wireless Router? I mean, I have a Belkin Wireless Router now, and it does PLENTY. But I have to use a DSL modem for it to get it's connection. I looked on TigerDirect for an alternative, but found none that didn't require a modem seperately. Also I didn't see any, including the supposed "Cable/ DSL" Routers that had any more functionality than my plain old Belkin has. Am I missing something???
A DSL router includes an ADSL modem and router so you get an all-in-one box. A wireless DSL router is the same with a wireless access point built in too. The same applies with cable routers (i.e. they have a cable modem built in). They cost slightly more than a standard Ethernet router as you pay for the extra components.
Ethernet routers are aimed at people who already have a cable or DSL modem and want to add a proper router to their network, and so they save money but end up with two boxes and more cabling.
