Default suitable netgear wireless card

Hi i bought a wireless card which was absolutely useless. It was a netgear wireless card and to give you an idea how bad it was i typed buy netgear with model name into google, and first 4 results where complaints saying DO NOT BUY.

The signal was nothing and was 3 meters from netgear wireless router and our laptops wireless worked fantastic. Even when line of sight from the netgear card to wireless rrouter it was rubbish.

Also another annoying thing was when installing its software it hijacked the windows xp log in screen and had its own custom login dialog box. When i originally had no log in screen and any attempt to turn it off was futile.

I would like to have another attempt and buy a simple card that behaves how you would expect most wireless laptops to act. scan for networks click connect enter security details done.

I figure i should go netgear after all i have a wireless netgear router that works fantastic no problem. Though this card has almost put me off netgear permanently.

Any suggestions on what card to buy or which ones not to buy would be great. Don't have exact router details as i'm at work. Working hard :P

The horrible evil netgear card that you should never buy is a Wireless-G Pci Adapter WG311v3. I can't stress this enough NEVER BUY THIS.

Now the netgear router that works very well and i'm happy with is a DG834G wireless adsl router.
I use WPA-PSK Security Encryption.

if you want anymore info i would be happy to give it, and any feedback is appreciated

Care to share with us exactly which Netgear wireless card model this is?

Personally I am very happy with Netgear and my experiance with their products is positive. They use Aethoros chipsets which are universally recognised as one of the best chipsets. Keep in mind that the Netgear max poweroutput is the same as all other manufacturers for a given region.

If you are getting such a bad signal between to points over which distance other cards are quite happy, then it is almost certainly down to some or other background software/hardware setting - as opposed to a fault or general poor performance.

... and the other but less likely possibility is that you may have a counterfiet on your hands: its a problem with internet purchases! - and they often do not work as well as the real mcCoy.

Which netgear card was it?
