Question switching between antennae?

I was wondering if you can put a switch from two antennae to one card as to swtich from one antenna to another. I want to make some kind of setup like this so i can use the mini pci card i bought with the internal antennas and when i need a lil range boost hook my cantenna up. idk about antennae maybe i dont even need a switch but hopefully you smart people here can give me some clarity. ive done something similiar when i modified my buffalo wli-cb-g54hp for use with a external sma plug but i havent tried putting a switch in there lol just wondering if its a stupid idea or am i onto something here?

If you can fit the switch on the card, and the conductive parts of the switch are shielded, it's possible. I personally wouldn't try to work on such a tiny scale project, but if you have the skills...

Switching between two external antennas would be easier, but once again, the switch would have to be shielded from radio waves.

well i got the skills my man i saw the term shielded in another post but didnt fully understand it, does it mean I put something around the whole switch like foil or some kind of wire mesh. if you could explain what that would do that would help me understand it and i might end up with a better result thanks

It just means there's enough metal (preferably grounded or with contact to the outer shield of the antenna cable) covering the metal contacts (but not touching them) in the switch to reflect any radio waves. You don't want the switch acting as an out-of-tune antenna. The card's case would probably do just fine, if it were metal around the switch.

this is for a internal card so theres no case but i get it now, thanks as soon as I get it my card in I'll try it and if it works good enough i might write a tut and put it on my friends site, of course I'll post a link here though! :P again thanks so much for the explanation using the internal card antennae wire should make it easier space wise rather than in my buffalo card lol and make it somewhat easier to solder to.
