Default WAP54G PoE compatibility with WAPPOE12

I have a WAP54G v3.1 access point which I would like to light up with PoE. It is 12v, so I thought the WAPPOE12 would work. I called Linksys CS to confirm this and they told me the WAPPOE12 is compatible with v1, v2, and v4, but not with v3.

I am firmly in denial (as all optimists must be) and just can't believe they would actually do something like this.

Can anyone confirm that the WAPPOE12 works with the WAP54G v3 units? Please?

Thanks!

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that any version of the WAP54G is not PoE compliant. You would have to do some mods (rewiring) on the board to get it to work. The WAP54GP is PoE

Default Linksys Responses Conflict

Thanks Fred,

My understanding to date is that the WAPPOE12 works as an injector/splitter for devices that don't have it built in like the WAP54GP.

Anyhow, I logged into Linksys Live Support, reposed the question and got a new answer saying the WAP54G v3.1 actually is compatible with the WAPPOE12. Now I have conflicting info from the same source.

Again, any direct experience out there?

thanks in advance

OK, I have just looked on the Linksys website to actually see what you are refering to. I should have done that first.

I have numerous WAP54G devices on my network from V2 to V3 and I don't care what power adapter I put on what, in fact I have even used power adapters from Dick Smith Electronics on them.

Hence I will stick my neck out and say that your WAPPOE12 is compable with any WAP54G device. Also remember that the WAP54G V3 only uses 6W so is very green. I do not use PoE for any of my WAP54G devices so I have not tested nor can I confirm this.

Regards

Fred
