what do I need?

hello,
I am a novice with networking equipment, so please let me know what information you need that I don't give you. I need to know what to buy to accomplish my task. here is my setup:

upstairs in home office, I have the cable modem(comcast, don't remeber the make/model) and wireless router(netgear wgr614).

downstairs I have a blu-ray player I would like to connect wired because I can't justify buying a proprietary usb dongle for $80 for one device. We also use a wireless laptop downstairs alot. The signal is okay, but the stronger the better. I know I could buy a new router for better range, but cheaper is the way to go right now.

So, is there an out of the box product that will work as a repeater to boost the signal downstairs plus be able to connect to the blu ray player wired.

I would like to hire some expert to go for your problem, I hope you will have the real benefit of it other than experiments.
