Default What router to buy

I am looking at possibly needing a new router. I am currently using a Linksys WRT54G. This router is almost 8 years old.

On my wireless network I have following:
* Main computer (Windows xp, connected to router via ethernet cable)
* Laptop (windows 7)
* ipod/cell phones
* 2 xbox360s (I only run one at a time, they both are wireless-n compatible)

I do stream Netflicks and some other content over the wireless connection.

I also have a hard drive that I use to move files from computer to computer at times.

I am not much of an expert in this so any advice on what routers would be best to look at would be great. Are there any brands to avoid... and why?

Thank you.

I wouls also look at the engenius esr9850 it has gigabit LAN and WAN ports great for high speed Internet connections much better than a 10/100 Mbit router. Also has 300Mbps 2T 2R 802.11n for high speed wireless.

also has great QOS functionality you can give priority to a service like streaming or to a IP of a device.

Since you will streaming netflix and gaming on an xbox over a wireless connection, you should consider a router that focuses on QOS traffic priortization. While a wireless connection can work for streaming video (Ive done it on a home theater PC for five years), Ive noticed that it often takes a tad bit longer to buffer videos, especially if its HD video.

10/100 Ethernet is fine for any internet application since a majority of people dont have 100 Mbps internet connections. Gigabit ethernet is best if your streaming video or downloading files from network computers or devices. I would always go with gigabit ethernet just so I can have the extra speed over the network.

I got the D-Link DGL 4300 router when it first came out, and then two months ago I upgraded to the Asus Black Diamond router. Needless to say, it is impressive. Range is excellent and it has many customizable features. I would recommend it for any heavy traffic network.
