Your question depends on a number of things.
Do you want to connect to your home network via a third party (ISP) or directly via your own wireless network?
If you are wanting to use a wireless ISP, then I guess you just need to setup some sort of firewall with port forwarding to the server you want access to. For this to work you would also need to know your IP address or have saetup some kind of dynamic DNS. And obviously you will need to check that the wireless ISP has coverage in the area you will be using the network.
If you are wanting to connect directly via your own wireless network you will need to have coverage within the area you are accessing the network from. A large number of things come into play here, for example: How far away from your home network are you going to be, what is the terrain, obsticals, will you be roaming etc etc.
Probably the most common type of setup is a point to point network between your home network, and your office where we presume you will be working. For this you only need to know if you can see both points, and if not, what is between them, and how far apart they are. You can then relatively easily work out what hardware you will need.
If you can give us more informatio9n about what you are wanting to achieve and how you think you would like to achieve it we can point you in a more possitive direction.
I hope you don't feel to overwelmed by my comments above, but it isn't as straight forward as some people think, and you want something that will work for you in the end.
