Default wireless network question

if i have a 54mbps netgear router and a 54mbps wireless adapter pci card, is there any advantage to upgrading to a 108mbps router? other than range since i have very good conectivity
i allready have the router from a friend and the only money issue would be upgrading my pci card to a 108.

It will be noticably faster for intensive network applications or copying files accross you network but it won't make your internet access any quicker.

You will need to ensure the brand of chipset used on the PCI card and in the router is the same to ensure you actually get 108Mbps to work, as each semiconductor manufacturer impliments it differently. If you stick with the same brand of card and router they should be designed to work together properly.

Atheros 108Mbps uses 'channel bonding' to get the extra speed and may be more sensitive to interference.

so you are saying that even if i have a 54mbps adapter, transfers and things will be faster with a 108mbps router than a 54?
(all products are netgear)

No, unfortunately it will make no difference unless all of your devices are 108Mbps capable and are produced by the same manufacturer.
