Default Wireless signal increase...

I'm looking for some sort of device to relay/repeat/increase the wireless signal my laptop receives. I work on the road and spend 90% of my time living out of hotels. More times than I'd like the signal is barely even functional.

In fact, the one I'm currently using is so weak that simply registering to this board was a painful 1+ minute wait between pages.

Back on point though, I've came up with nothing feasible for my situation after a bit of google crawling.

The only device I've ever seen that's supposed to do this, was some sort of standalone box that plugged straight into the outlet, unfortunately I had no chance to test its effectiveness as I was only in that certain hotel room overnight. Curious how useful these are if at all.

Anyways, thanks in advance for any help. I'll be on my way now, time for a swim back through the molasses over to google .

To answer my own question somewhat, I found the "Wi-Fire" ( hField Technologies, Inc. ) mentioned in another thread, it looks promising.

Anyone here have any personal opinions on it?

Hello there,

I have a Wi-Fire and I think that it is great!

With Wi-Fire I have been able to pick up on wireless signals that I could never receive before. It uses a 10.4 dBi antenna so that the signal can come in clear and at a fast speed. I use it both at home and when I am traveling. I would really recommend one and it sounds like you really need this device too!

I actually did end up ordering a Wi-fire, and while it hasnt been 100% flawless (though this may be due more too the wireless network im connecting to being clogged with traffic.) I've been very impressed nonetheless. Online games that were 100% unplayable before are playable once again, and mere browsing is no longer a severe headache.

My only true gripe is that i'd like to have a longer USB but with how it is constructed (the part of the cord that connects onto the wi-fire is a female end rather than being a male, with the wifire itself having a male connector on it.) Rather difficult to find a retail place that sells a cord like this so far. Another small issue is that the plastic base on it is a little on the light side.

I'd still easily give it a 4 out of 5 though, very handy and worth the cost.
