I bought a wireless plan from Verizon for my home computer and traveling laptop. They provided me with a USB720 for the connection. On the road, most of the time I get acceptable speeds because I am connecting to a Broadband Access tower. At home, My desktop connects to a National Access tower(I was told it was a leased tower from Alltel) that is very slow(sometimes faster than DU, other times not). I average between 10-150 KBPS download speeds, with the higher only happening late at night. I bought the "tongue depressor looking" antenna from Verizon that does not seem to help here in the rural area of east Texas where I reside. I have a metal roof on my house with lots of pine trees surrounding the homestead.
Two miles south of my house I have access to the faster speed tower on my laptop, although the leased(slower speed) tower is closer so the device choses that tower.
Hopefully, you are still with me on this one. I have 2 questions:
1) Will an exterior antenna help with my speeds since it will probably still access the leased tower, if available? How much of an increased speed to expect?
