Default WRT54G Internal pigtail

Is it worth it to connect directly from the internal pigtail to an enternal antenna.

Saving a few dB of loss via the usual RP-TNC connector.

Nice one. Certainly could be a plan if you already have connectors of a different sort.

Since i have voided the warranty by replacing the firmware as may as well open it up. Is it on all versions this pigtail? What ver. you got?

In a situation where every db counts, I'd say it's definately worth it. I'm doing the same with my Senao bridge, pics are coming...

Wookie
Will be getting one today from TP.
Will post pics when I have it apart.
Until I find the pigtails I might cut one and solder a N-Connector to it.
Hopefully it won't too nasty on the rf.

Update:
Bugger me, no screws to undo. Just pull and it comes apart.
This sucker is v2, and as you can see, no pigtails so straight solder for me.

And one of many link re power.

the case of WRT54G, the SiGe power stage used in the hardware version 1 and 1.1 does have the saturation (or compression as mentioned in the link by cci[RR]us) problem when pushed above 23 dbm (200 mw), in fact it is not advisable to push the output of the SiGe chip to beyond 20 dbm (100 mw), as the venitlation design is inadequate to handle the extra heat dissipation.""

however, WRT54G hardware version 2.0 and above use the Maxim MX2247 RF power stage which has a maximum output capability of 28 dbm (800 mw) without any saturation problem and is almost noise free up to 500 mw. but the MX2247 has a optimum gain of 17 db (50 times linear gain), and with the maximum output of the Broadcom 4712 chipset's preamp stage limited to 7 dbm (5 mw), the maximum achievable output of the WRT54G through firmware tweak is 24 dbm (251 mw)."

200mW+ , i'm all wet ops:

They got a mean combo deal.
Unfortunatly I was strapped for cash so I only got the AP.

$140, $156 for S
Combo WRT54G+WUSB54G $195, saving about $40

Although a firmware is mentioned due out, that brings S to the standard version.

Will do some temp testing at various power levels and post.

Using WRT54G.Sveasoft.Firmware.Alchemy.pre5.4_by_TheIndi vidual

Update:
I didn't know these things ran so hot.
Check pictures for where A and B are. temps were measured with a non contact infrared thermometer
State - A - B . Ambient temp was 22 degrees C
Idle 40 31
load 45 32
200mw 50 38

Default WRT54G + Modded Firmware = 500mW ???

Hi Insane_x, I write to you because I was looking a lot of information about the
WRT54G and you seems to have a good knowledge about that.
In this webpage an user with name n3ldan write this:
Ask Engadget: Best home WiFi router? - Engadget
n3ldan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:20AM

WRT54G + Modded Firmware = 500mW of love.

My question is: what mod firmware you think he use to elevate the router
WRT54G to that quantity of mW power?
because the Tomato, OpenWRT and DD-WRT they only accept 251mW as
maximum, so I was wondering how you could arrive to that power,
please let me know, I need your help.

Why do you think maximum output of the WRT54G is 251 and not 500mW ?

Ok, that's all for now.
Thanks in advance.
Hector.
