How to find IP address in windows xp

Click on the start menu button and then on run (or hold down the windows key and R)

Type "cmd" (without quotes) and hit enter

Once the box opens type "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) and hit enter

If you are using dynamic addresses and are connected successfully to a network with DHCP then you should see an address next to "IP Address". If it fails to connect properly or your DHCP server isn't working then your address should be in the 169.x.x.x range. With a 169.x.x.x range then you won't be able to use the network adapter.

thanks for sharing the information..., though i have got a question for you. what if i m using dynamic IPs. do they change frequently? i just need to know the difference between dynamic and static IPs and please be specific.

If you are using dynamic IP, then DHCP server is giving you the IP address. And the time you have the same IP address depends on the DHCP lease time.
