we are seriously considering pushing the community side of the network, as we are not directly in this to make a huge profit, we just want fast internet and want to offer more local services at high speeds and at nill cost.

Default Lovely

Share some the money with us auckland peoples, just 50k will do it, well have lots of AP's up. @ $300 a repeater we should be sweet!

I like all the pictures and methods of doing everything.

Please can you give more info regarding the solar panel etc, backup power. Have you tried wind power?

I have a couple of ap's i want to connect with power other than 240V because i dont want to drill in peoples roofs.

POE is your answer, very very simple too.
I am not part of the crc project, just watch it with envy
I am building a similar project down here in Dunedin.

Default poe

I do use poe and have 4 units using it, however it does still mean mounting it on the roof and getting the cable into the house somehow. In houses that are 2mnths old, people dont enjoy cables running down their walls, neither do they want holes drilled on the roof.

Maybe a waterproof housing and mount your AP up the pole and run CATV cable rather than the antennae RG cable as its thinner an less of a problem to run into a new house. Failing that, they are bound to have SKY or a standard broadcast antennae, run it through the same hole on the roof and you'll be sweet. In terms of in the ceiling, I often just install another power outlet in the ceiling, most people dont mind, stick a double in there and they will love you forever next time they go to use a drill or handilamp or something lol.

Cheers

Someone needs to read the NZ Power and Saftey regs. Off the top of my head to put a power adapter in the roof it has to be a specific type, Fans are usually 240 volts and can not burn out. Same with the transformers for lighting. They are of a type that the windings of shorted will not catch fire. Also take a look at the weight of them and the fast that they are allmost totally cased in a metal housing.

However the transformers used for AP's are switchmode. certinly not the safest power supply.

Personally i would not put a switchmode in the roof of my own house let alone a cleints house just in case. Remember YOU are the one who is going to be held accountable shout a fire start and the insurance company will be knocking on your door. If someone dies in the fire then you will could held accountable for that also and face criminal charges.

They weigh nothing and come in a plastic case. I know we had to get an old style magnetic transformer for the ones on 2 long wires because the electronic one has limits on the lead length, but that dinosaur technology buzzes when dimmed so doesnt get a lot of use. Im assuming that electronic transformer is marketing speak for a switchmode powersupply.

Wonder what they have to say about a computer stuffed in the roofspace.

How many $$$ do you need?

I'm still having trouble finding a marketing plan on this site!

I'll trade you a marketing plan for $$$ if you like.
