Default best AP for most clients?

can anyone reccomend an AP that handles up to say 20-30 clients

Without knowing anything else about what you want to do with it,
Linksys WRT54 are popular and well supported thru user groups.

I have tried various brands (3com, DSE, DLink) and setteled on these.

Default Netgear or Linksys

Personally having tried Dlink, Linksys, Netgear, Gigabyte and others
my personal fav is Netgear for me anyway

dlink is shit, I'll back that up... mine gets less range with a 16dBi Borg Waveguide, than it did with a homemade 10dBi antenna..
