Several ISP's offer wireless plans using the Wired Country network / service (ihug, iconz etc).

Looks like a very good option is you have a good line of sight to an access point. You can read about some first hand experiences with the Wired country service in this thread:
http://www.nzwireless.org/postx314-0-0.htmlwired

The verdict appears to be lower pings than dsl, which is all good. It appears they use a 3.8ghz band for transmission so bad weather and general interference are not likely to be an issue or cause any noteworthy latancy..

However couple of things to note, the ISP/Wired Country retains ownership of the equipment they install at your place and there is a minimum lock-in period ie: you have to signup for x months. So read the fine print.

About the ping times, this was discussed in the topic posted earlier but in case you miss it, there have been suggestions that EzySurf/ICONZ have bad international latency. However, it's still not clear if this is true (especially for UDP packets which tend to be the case where latency really matters) or they just have bad ping times to international destinations.

Also, EzySurf/ICONZ specifically mention that international bandwidth is shared for flatrate. While all residential ISPs of course generally have shared international bandwidth, there is obviously a difference in the allocation between the flat rate plans and their non flat rate plans (and ISPs like Ihug who don't have flat rate plans). I would suspect EzySurf do not try to maintain your maximum international bandwidth during peak times on the flatrate plans but most ISPs including EzySurf will generally try to keep bandwidth at max even during peak times for non flatrate plans.

Also, EzySurf do of course have a reasonable use clause. However, it's one of the best I've seen so far in NZ. Top 10 users each month will be identified and monitored the next month and if you keep it up, they will contact you.

One and one more thing, do read the contracts carefully. If I recally, EzySurf/ICONZ contract is in continuous 6 month periods, i.e. every six months it is renewed. However, Ihug contract is for the first 6 months but after that it's only every month...

It depends exactlly what you want it for, if you want it for leeching and nothing else then ya use it, I had it and it was totally crap int, national was fine.

After much bitching and finally finding someone there who was really helpful they made me a 2mbit 20gig int account, which i think they now made available to everyone on their plans, which is great.

Pings are fine int and nat, better than my adsl was. So if your going to go with iconz make sure you get a datacapped plan as they are handled totally different. The flatrate plan was pinging 1kto3k int peak times ><

I'm glad you created this thread. I was going to go with the unlimited plan but wasn't too happy with the latency issues mentioned in another thread. Thanks for asking them for a 2Mbit 20gb plan! It's great that they give you free national traffic. This is certainly the plan I'll be getting

The interesting thing is that the way it is now, Ihug probably have the best 1mbit plan, EzySurf the best 2mbit (best 256k is maybe PCConnect?). Which is good I suppose

I think most plans by most ISPs except Telecom things give free or significantly cheaper national. Although there's no telling how things are going to pan out with TC's decision to stop peering, possibly followed by Telecom...

Default Ezysurf limitations

As mentioned on the website http://www.ezysurf.co.nz/support_faq.html
the speed reduces when one acceses KaZaA/Morpheus/WinMX/Gnutella which is unfair, and there should be no limitations,so im seriously considering another option.

Has anyone actually used this plan and could let us know what throughput to expect. I'm not interested in ping times and RTT.....just download speed for large files.

Cheers
