Default Hauraki area

Are there any members in the wider Hauraki area interested in discussing wireless network possibilities?

How wide is "wider Hauraki" - well for the moment I was thinking of Ngatea, Thames, Paeroa, Miranda, Kaiaua, Coromandel - also Matamata, Te Aroha.
Obviously to cover such an area we would have to get serious about some long-haul point-to-point installations - but one advantage of the Hauraki Plains and Gulf is that it is mostly flat with nice big hills around so LOS is not a problem --- so if you happen to live half way up Mount Te Aroha it would be really good

I am in Thames with LOS to some of the above places. If we could get a network in place with a node or 2 over towards Hamilton then we might be able to link up with the Hamilton network.

Anyone interested?

LOS may not be a problem, but fresnel, free space loss and earth curvature for anything above 5-6km tends to become a problem

There are a sprinkling of houses in the hills along both sides of the plains and gulf that would have more than enough elevation to deal to the fresnel and curvature problems, but certainly path loss would still be an issue. Just need to persuade some of those peple with the good views to become wireless junkies  or that parabolic dishes are the latest in house accesories!

So far none of them seem to be subscribers to nzwireless

Interested to hear Thames Valley wireless interest.

We have a weekend property on the northern side of Paeroa, small elevation.
I have 802.g running most weekends, nothing flash via IPCop to
dialup modem.

Will add an external antenna some stage, curious to see coverage.

Not a lot of experience with 2.4 and 5 gig. Background here is HF VHF .

All good fun.

I have read of the Waikato wireless links from the Uni to Ngahinapouri and
Te-Pahu and Pirongia. I guess they are still running ? I know the area
very well. Old home town territory...

New to this forum, look forward seeing whats what in NZ wireless..

cheers

Paul b

You would of course be referring to WAND's CRC-Net
