Default Help a novice ... dell truemobile 2600 --> compaq evo N10

Hi all

I have been trying to connect the two components in the subject line to no avail and suspect that my laptop is not capable of recieving the signal. It has an infrared port but does this mean it should pick the wireless router up? Is there a wireless protocol?

Any help is gladly recieved

Having an infrared port has got nothing to do with wireless sorry

Are you sure both computers have wireless cards?

Thanks for your reply.

The wrieless router, I guess, has wireless capability but how do I know if my laptop is wireless capable? Should I see some hardware in the device manager and if so what is it likely to be called?

Cheers
Denis.....

I don't have a laptop with a wifi card in it, so I can't tell you exactly what to look for, but there should be something under network cards or wireless in device manager

Hi DMouse

Your laptop will have a pmica wifi network card in the side of it some where if it has wifi. The wifi card may/may not have a arial attached to it.

To find out onother way do the following:
-right click my computer and click Manage
-in the left pannel of the window that appears click Device Manager
-then in the right pannel click Network Adaptors.

Look for a wireless device in there.
Good luck.

hope this helps
