It looks like there is another wireless operator setting up in Auckland
www.nzwireless.co.nz offering there www.gasp.co.nz service. Friends have been contacted and are looking at getting installed out west… there is nothing else on there site yet but I wonder how long it will be until we have an official launch???

Does anyone know anything more? Or is anyone using them at the moment? And whats it like?

What’s the service like? in comparison to other offerings?
I’ve been told that they are in the process of rolling out several sites in Auckland at the moment.... yet when I look I cant find anyone that is using them in Auckland at the moment... sounded like something new up hear anyway
the friends of mine are way out in the hill and no one else wanted to service them, absolutely no one, then these guys came in and now have a site up and running

customer service is brilliant, the service itself depends on where you are and which POP you're connected to, some people do have problems whereas others just plod along fine. I've noticed since telstra depeered that my national routing to friends on cable has gone very spastic and subsequently transfer rates have slowed, though that is telstra's fault, not nzw's.

At present, as far as I know, the main sites in Auckland for NZW are Skytower and a tower in Glendene, they dont have complete coverage of AKL but I'd imagine they'd be working on it as they have down here in wellington...

The data caps don't really effect the average user . The coverage maps may help some users who need broadband service .

what's your average monthly usage ?

20-40 gig depending on what Im doing...
have you read what wired country did in the link above??? just like all the other corporate promised the earth and did nothing to supply service.... kept fobbing them off... just like telecom its shocking that no one has stood up and offered a customised service this is a quote from the bookwith link

"Oh yeah, Wired Country told me that: Yes they will expand to West Auckland and Yes, No, Maybe we might be in their range or some of us will be. In other words maybe if we are lucky. This expansion is going to happen in this first quarter according their last years planning. "

that’s been and gone... promise promise...
granted its better than what telecom did but still on the same lines...

what this is saying is that we no longer have to set back and look at coverage maps if we don’t like what’s on offer in the area or would like more choice we are no longer lams to the slaughter stuck with what’s available… there are some companies out there willing to offer something customised to what we want and focused on what we need…. Choice and selection….

BRING IT ON... some competition

from what your saying Im taking it you work for them (wired contry) ???

Hey, just heard that Wired Country has a new site in Mt Albert - launched last week. How far out West were you looking at?
Wired Country appear to be launching a new site every couple of weeks. Might be worth keeping an eye out.

Dude are you actually reading what the thread is about? Why don’t you… your comments are all about Wired country, this and that… yes they offer choice but really do you have anything else to add… when you consider that they have stoped taking clients in the central suburbs of auckland because they have reached capacity you have to wonder why you on about them so much…

interesting that the link above takes you to a company that is "kind of" up for sale.... after the power company figured out that they arent the best people to be a ISP.... any one around that could lend me a cool $40M

anyway going on from this i cant seem to figure Ihugs deceion to stop selling as they are all compaling about the lack of margin from Telecom and yet cant seem to manage to support an additional supplier which im sure would have better margin that telecom....

i am beging to hope that NZW shows up in a big way as then at least there will be some choice that may stay arround and is focused

I am also very interested in the gasp service but what is wireless like for fps etc gaming.
I have spoken to them and they assure me that it's fantasic but is it really?
They have told me that because i am in town and have a good los of the sky tower, they will connect me to that.
Big install cost though so i need to be sure that moving away from t/com (who btw after 8 years of paying them reliably, have told me if i'm unhappy to try find someone else) is the right thing to do .

They have been great so far but and have also pinged servers overseas for me to test connections etc but some extra feedback would be appreciated.
