Default Warflying Auckland 2004

I have access to a plane to do a warfly. Problem is I need $ to pay for fuel and captain. ShadowX is keen to be the key techie flyboy on this (it means we'll stick his stuff on the plane and he'll do the measurements). Anyone interested in "donations". Probably looking at around $500 total....Like to achieve this late January and post results for members...

what club you getting the plane from? May able to swing some cheaper deal for you. Just happen to know a few "lightie" pilots.

A mate of mine owns it. The budget is based on paying around $120 hr. I have allowed for up to four hours flight time (heaps). The intention is to get the greater auckland looked at.

OK,

Thats about right. 4 hours is heaps. I have friends that will fly for free if we pay hirage and gas, which equates to about that much per hour. i think 2 hours will be more than enough. You could get to hamilton in 4 hours!

You won't need any sort of clearance to operate over the CBD in Auckland, but you won't be able to go too close to Auckland International. Any pilot types will be able to show you a map of where you can fly without problems.

In two hours you might be able to get a bit of the North Shore too - mostly along the waterfront from Devonport up to Long Bay (and beyond if you want). It's unlikely you'll get clearance to fly randomly around Whenuapai though.

Thanks for the info. I gather you might be in NZRAF based on your location...we will be doing Auckland from the square within from Orewa to Musik Point to Papakura to titirangi and then add Waiheke and Pukekohe if we have enough gas (yeah - a flght plan is under construction )[/img]

No flight plan required...go VFR!

Have you got a pilot who will do it for free? I can find you one. Just the cost of the gas will all thats needed.

Auckland CBD is not controlled under 2500 feet so it won't be a problem

In case anyone is interested......
Mind the bad quality of the scan, this chart has been creased left right and centre.

Basically, the green diagonal centre is uncontrolled below 2500 feet and so it not a problem. The red circle in the top left is basically a no go area as it is for military use.

The pinkish area to the right hand of the image is controlled (above 1500 feet) but it shouldn't be an issue to get in here.

The unhighlighted parts are controlled and a little more difficult to get 'muck around scenic' access into.

As you can see, most of the 'interesting' area falls inside my green highlighted area which makes things simple

Cheers
-John

As far as I am aware, at this stage, the only software which will log both signal strength and position via gps is for linux.
Netstumbler only logs the peak signal received which is no good for triangulating the position of an access point.

Does anyone know of any windows software which will actually log the position and signal strength, not just the peak signal strength?

I am planning an expedition for may and need to get the software side of things sorted out soon.

Thanks
-John

Just joined the group and found this. Most cool.
Did it go ahead? Do you have any data from the flight?

Cheers.

I have finally gotten around to getting my Pilots Licence. Is anyone still keen to do this? I can either take 1 other person in a 2 seater, or 2 others in a 4 seater.
We can split the costs, it'll work out to about $60 per person per hour

Default I'm keen if you need another pilot

I'm at 175 hours, ratings grumman (2 seater), and 172's (4). Sounds like an interesting project.
