Default Wired Country + Debian PPPOE = Trouble for me....

Hi,

I am having trouble setting up PPPOE with Debain Testing (and Woody for that matter) to utilise my Wired Country connection. Could someone please post or send me their configuration files for it. I have been using Roaring Penguin-PPPOE client but I want to install a barebones system and everything seems to get broken after I install everything to compile RP-PPPOE (not really broken, just anything that tries to access the internet works for about 3 seconds then freezes up or outputs rubbish to the console).

Thanks,

Jacob

PS: I know that RP-PPPOE works because I use it in Slackware 10.0

Hi,

I dont actually use PPPOE in debian, but this might help:

Make sure you are using the default debian pppoe package.
You shouldn't need to download anything from a website or have to compile anything.
Just run `apt-get install pppoe`.

Once you have the pppoe package installed, look in /usr/share/doc/pppoe for some documentation on how to use it.

Also read `man pppoe`

Note: To view README.Debian.gz without decompressing it, use `gunzip -c filename.gz | less`

There is also a package called pppoeconf (`apt-get install pppoeconf`). As root you can run `pppoeconf` which tries to do some things for you.

Hope this helps

Yeah, I have attempted to use ppoeconf etc but no luck, and I also tried to manually edit the configuration files but didn't work. Guess I'll just stick with Slackware.

Hi,

I started reading the first post and got this far
Quote:
I am having trouble
and I thought "hold the phone... he's having trouble, what subforum here sounds like that... troubleshooting? Of course!"

Which begs the question - Why did you post here in general discussion?

Just about every post in general discussion is troubleshooting or getting advice...... And I don't have a Hardware or VOIP problem, the only troubleshooting subforums on this site.
