Depends on how you use the internet. I have several friends who just use the internet for browsing and email and they find the woosh service pretty good, I have several other friends who are gamers and hate the service with a passion.

High latancy seems to be issue particularly if you like to game, or watch streaming video or listen to streaming audio.

You would get yourself a wrt-54G or GS, and an ethernet cable from woosh.

Be aware that you need to set it up on the USB cable and the shitty windows software to put the username into the woosh modem, then put it into the router and use the ethernet cable.

Works fine... well as fine as woosh does.

right now I would be going linksys for wireless gear.. as for dsl, you still cant beat a nokia m1122 (unless of course you throw a low of money down for a cisco 800 series or a comparable allied telesyn kit)

I would agree with whetu on the Linksys for wireless, Wrt54

ADSL - my 3com Home connect has been rock steady for over 2 years.

surely you'd have to have one of those terrible woosh-modem thingies though?

With bitstream coming up, I see no reason whatsoever to get Woosh for a fixed location provided of course your in an ADSL/Jetstream area. Woosh has poorer service quality and other problems High/spiky latency is a big problem for games, VOIP etc but it also makes surfing a less enjoyable as well, the only think it doesn't affect much is moderately sized or larger downloads). Orcon's current offer is cheaper then Woosh anyway. Although depending on how things go, you might want to wait and see what other ISPs offer.

Do not forget that www.wirelessweb.co.nz is now up and running.

Mainly designed to reach out into the rural areas were there is only Telecom coverage using BCL's wireless network, and if you thought wirelessweb was not the cheapest, see what Telecom have to offer.

We have setup low bandwidth plans, priced for those that "just" want to e-mail and surf the internet.
