Default Woosh interenet connection using Ethernet Router

Who is using Woosh and running ethernet cable to a router for internet sharing.??? Please recommend the best router for me, my netgear RP614 doesn't work sometimes. after rebooting or connection drops.. and then reconnect.. can't view some of the web sites and problem to connect to some of the POP3 mail server. (Woosh mail server is fine)..

I need a reliable router that fully testing without any problem... if anyone is using woosh and ethernet connection to a router that running PC too... and no problem for over a month.. please send me the router model.. I dont' want to keep reboot and reset the router setting all the time and make the connection works... when I plug it back to use USB.. no problem found.. so, must be the router problem. Thanks a lot

Hi Herby,

Have had no probs with Woosh's pppoe connection via 2-3 models of Edimax router (available from dealers of Computer Dynamics in Albany, Auckland).

Currenlty have client connections using woosh on Edimax BR-6541 routers.
lower models should also work fine.

Apart from that, I did have a problem with two other Woosh connections dropping in and out. It was found to be the modem in one case, and the HUGE truck parking out side every 10:30am to unload courier parcels in the other ;-)

hope this helps

Cheers

Lee

I second the smoothwall suggestion that whetu mentions above.
I use the ipcop fork of smoothwall with my Wired country connection.
But, how about including your wireless requirements by using a Linksys WRT54G Router.
I have one of these as well an is a very nice unit.

Stay away from DSE and D-Link for Woosh. Nothing but troubles for me.

I'm currently about to experience the WRT54GS if it ever arrives. That looks like it will do the job nice and reliably.

mmm I agree with ForceRecon - stay away from the DSE and DLink routers....

I have heard good things about the Linksys WRT54GS and the Linksys BEFW11S4. Of course these are both Wireless Routers, if you want wired ethernet you could go for a cisco 805, or a 1720 - but you'll pay $$$$ for it!!! :?

Failing that, I've heard woosh using a Zyxel Prestige 324 router that seems to work ok...

You could try getting one through woosh or see if these guys will sell you one:

http://www.xtreme.net.nz/firewalls.shtml

Also snapper.net.nz used to have them (not sure if they've still got em)

hope that helps...

I am getting my WC connected this Friday.

I currently using a Smoothwall firewall connected to my ADSL router. When I switch it to WC can I connect multiple PC's (Through a hub of course) to the smoothwall firewall and have it act as a router (ie. do all the NAT etc...)?

Yes of course, that is what it is designed for!

The wired counrty service (off the sky tower) is presented
as an ethernet interface, so just kick your dsl router into touch
and connect the WC to the red ethernet interface of your Smoothie.

Stick a hub (pref switch) on the green inteface and go from there.

I think the anti-Dlink sentiment is unfair. Perhaps their user interfaces aren't as easy to use as other manufacturers (as I haven't used any others) or maybe firmware upgrades make a difference, but I have been very happy with my solution.

I'm running a D-Link Extreme G network with a laptop connected with a G650 and an old (win98) computer connected via a G120. We share a woosh internet connection.

The ease with which the DI-624 keeps woosh connected is amazing. I had to connect the modem directly to the win98 machine on the weekend and after completing that task, and plugging it back into the router, woosh was back up instantly, without me having to do anything.

The DI-624 is as function rich as any of the routers, and given that it is VERY significantly cheaper, I think you shouldn't rule it out so quickly.

I found the link below quite useful as a guide to setting up woosh on the 624 (written by the company/person I bought the gear off), and it would probably apply to other wireless routers also.

Default linux, woosh wireless + Dlink Router DI 704P

I have woosh wireless and Internet phone.
Wot I did was set it all up under windows, then connected my Linux machine and started using it. (no problems)
I was a bit cautious about connecting the Dlink router, but all I did was factory reset the router, logged in to set it up. (really just check it, it's left on default settings). Then plugged the woosh wireless into the wan port of the router and away it went no problems.
Maybe I was a lucky one?
