So I got Woosh the other day.
It worked quite well for the first few hours.
Now I have this neat problem - allow me to explain...
Where I live looks over the Waitamata harbour to the city side - more specifically at Westmere. When I connect to Woosh I do so on the Westmere cell (site 66).
However, it seems that a little further up the harbour, at Waterview, there is another cell (site 80).
Now, the problem is this - site 66 (Westmere) is a clean, but slightly weak signal (3 of 5 bars), however site 80 (Waterview) is strong (5 of 5) but the signal to noise ratio (signified by the RSCP and ISCP readings) is high, in fact they are often the same number, whereas Woosh tell me they should be at least 5dBm apart. I cannot connect to site 80, but as it is a strong signal, it's all my modem will see.
"Get a booster antenna," said Woosh, and I did. I just makes site 80 stronger. Unfortunately, as best I can tell, it has a directional range of about 75deg, which is no good for me, I can't position it in anyway to issolate the signal from site 66.
I am sort of hoping there is a hidden engineering feature in the modem somewhere that will allow me to force it to blacklist a specific cell, or lock to one of my choosing, but no-one at Woosh knows anything about that.
My next idea is to build a directional yagi antenna and see if that will halp, but I don't hold out too much hope.
Anyone had any similar issues? I see there has been a little Woosh discussion here in the past, nothing to technical that I've seen though.
Also, what I have learned so far:
RSCP = Received Signal Code Power
ISCP = Interference Signal Code Power
Woosh frequency: 2058600MHz
Woosh wavelength: 146mm (roughly)
