The WRT54G is my main router, acting as DHCP server and hosting the internet connection. From there, I have a 6' ethernet cable connecting it to the WRT55AG. This just serves as a wireless router without DHCP. (They are sitting on top of each other, planning on moving them apart in the future, just have been testing.)
It's worked fine for a month at least now but about 3 days ago, I lost my internet connection. I simply reset both wireless routers and my cable modem. Within 5 minutes, it was working again. It worked fine from then until the next day, I had the same problem. Same thing fixed it.
About an hour ago, I had a bigger failure. I lost my connection to the internet. My laptop said it was connected to the wireless but couldn't connect to anything (including both routers). The only thing that was working was devices that were wired into the primary router only. (I did try connecting wirelessly to both routers.)
All I could connect to with a wired connection was the primary routers (WRT54G) control panel. After about 5 minutes of messing with it, it dropped the wired connections.
I did a hard reset on every device and now have it put back together with just the WRT54G and nothing else. It's working fine but I just don't know why it has been acting up lately and esp. why it did this tonight.
The routers have heated up some since I had them stacked but I would think this heat is ok, since they are designed to be stackable?
