Lightbulb 600m Wireless Lan Setup

Hello, Am in the process of working out what gear will be needed for this project.

At the moment I am guessing my best option for a point to point would be
- 2.4GHz 19dBi at Both Ends
- Just a 2m or so Coax cable from Each Grid dish

The roofs on both houses are raised so the coax cable will run directly into the roof where on one end there will be a...

Standard Linksys WRT54G (3rd Party Firmware)
At the other location we are going to try a Cheap Generic AP/Bridge/Client Adapter

What are your thoughts on this?

Anything else you would recommend?

What speeds do you think will be achievable with this setup?

How will weather conditions effect this link (I am assuming because of the short distance (With The Grid Dishes) the other location will always be reachable just might drop Speed/Signal.

Also how would you recommend Monitoring the signal Because we are using a Linksys router and a generic product on the other end I am guessing all we can do is run some speed and stress tests to find the average speed overtime and also ping the other location to give us an idea of that.

I am guessing a ping from location a-b would be about 25ms? Which would include PC-Bridge-Wifi-Bridge-PC

Attached Bellow is some graphical specifications that I have been able to obtain.

Your Assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Local Overview Map
- Crosses Represent Location A and B
- Distance From Point A-B Is Approx 632m

Elevation Map:
- Crosses Represent Location 1 and Location 2
- Average Distance From Ground At Mid-Point Is Roughly 57m
- Distance From Point A-B Is Approx 632m

I don't see anything that would doom this project.

A pounding rain storm would degrade your signal, but I don't know if it would destroy it.

Are there trees blocking the line of sight between dishes?

Have you protected the dishes from lightning strikes?

No trees at all there is complete full LOS

Have you protected the dishes from lightning strikes?

No. The dishes are mounted on small dipoles coming out of the side of the house, What would you recommend in this situation?

Would it be worth me spending a little more money on better hardware or boosters? will i see much of a speed gain in doing this?

If there are metal gutters above the dishes, they're probably safe. Otherwise, install a rod above the dish, connected by thick bare copper wire to a rod sunk in the earth.

Signal amps can probably wait until after testing the basics. If you're losing data packets, then amplifying the signal would increase transfer speed, but of course the speed of light will remain constant.

Yup thats definitally the point but im wondering for my money whats going to be beter spending a little money on a decent booster or just getting a Senao AP/Bridge/Client on each end. it comes down to boosting a signal comming out of a cheap generic unit and a linksys unit or buying new units.

as it stands we have done some test runs with borrowed gear but thats about it. Just waiting for our settlement date on the new house and then we will really get stuck in and hard wire these babys up
