Access external hard disk over WLAN

I have an external hard disk I want to use as a storage device for all the computers on my network. I don't, however, want it to be connected to a server as I want it to be online 24/7.

Is there any device I can attach it to to allow it to be connected to my network? The only connections it has are USB and Firewire...

Also, I want to be able to access the hard disk from anywhere in the world via internet - is this possible?
