Default Asus RT-N56U

OK, I just bought the Asus RT-N56U, and connected my external hard drive. Now, I can connect to it using the Internet FTP link provided by the router, but when trying to ping? it (I believe that's what it's called lol, I've never meddled with it much until now) by going to run and entering \\RT-N56U, I get the following error.

If I butchered all of the above technical jargon, which I'm sure I did. I'll explain in the simplest way I can... I can access the hard drive via the IP in my browser to view/download files but am not able to upload any files, which is the goal/purpose of creating this thread.

Thanks in advance for any help given,
Alan

EDIT: Proof that the hard drive is connected to the router just fine.

I'm assuming that you are a Windows system, so you need to select [COMPUTER] and look for the [Network] folder icon, select it and you should see something like [RT-N56U] listed which is the drive connected to the Asus RT-N56U. You may need to 'net share' the drive by doing the following:

In the Windows menu [run] box, enter '//RT-N56U' followed by the [enter] key.

The drive should now be available in [COMPUTER] and accessible in Windows Explorer.

1: I'm at school right now, but I remember being able to conenct to it as a upnp device (I could play music/videos from it).
2: I tried that and got an error, which was in my first post and was complimented with this pic:

Did the drive come with any management software? Like NDAS?
