Default Belkin 802.11g Issues

Hi.

I have a 2mb internet connection with Blueyonder (UK) and I want to set up a network.

On the network I want to have one ethernet computer (this one), one wireless computer, an Xbox 360 connection and a NDS wi-fi running (not all at the same time, but they'd all run at one point or another).

At first the network worked well. However, the Belkin router seems to cut out randomly. The power goes blank, then the router reboots with an oranger power light, orange numbers, and my PC says it's running at 10 mbps.

It's a nuisence, as I would like to get the network running. I tried Belkin support, but I got a foreign call center with someone who was obviously didn't have a clue what they were talking about.

I also got the unit replaced, but the new unit does the same, which leads me to believe it's not the unit. I've tried running it on a different channel and I've tried to change settings in the Belkin Router's IP, but nothing seems to stop it cutting out.

It happens randomly. Sometimes when one computer is running, sometimes when more are running. Sometimes it cuts out after a minute and other times it takes up to ten minutes.

Default Belkin

Sounds like an overheating problem but you say it happens after one minute, is this one minute from a previous reboot or from a cold start-up?. A lot of chips have thermal shutdown protection and they will restart. Does the unit have good ventilation?
Also, have you updated the firmware recently? I saw a Belkin ADSL wireless router a couple of months ago that was new out of the box with a firmware from 2004.
I am assuming that you have security turned on, otherwise it could be a neigbour having a bit of fun!
Good luck
Dale

Unhappy evil router

iva always had trouble with my belkin wireless router, i use it with an ntl box (although im with vm now) and been fine with it since th last year or so, but the belkin hasnt worked properly since day one. unpacked it and set it up properly, installed the little reciever on the second pc upstairs properly, but whenever i use the wireless it all just goes dodgy. i can connect to it easily, although it keeps losing internet connectio for no reason, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes for a few hours, when i try to use firefox or ie it usually works, but keeps going sow or stopping altogether. when downloading stuff itll come up with the download window saying downloading at so many kbps and --% complete, it usually download for a short while but stops, while still saying its downloading at a certain speed, it could stop at 50%, could be 90% or not even download at all. it cant be the pc because ive had the same trouble with my laptop with built in wireless card and, to top it all off, it even does the same to the pc its plugged directly in to. i know its a long post but has anyone had the same problem and does anyone know hw to sort it? the last thing i need right now is to have to fork out for a new one.
sod it, ill throw in a few smileys to lighten up this huge blob of letters for you
