Belkin F5D7230-4 - Makes connection but no internet?
Hi Guys ,
I have a Belkin router model F5D7230-4 802.11g, i ran the installation disk and stuff and the router works properly when using the wired connection. However when i try to get my laptop (Dell, WinXP SP2 with a wireless PCMCIA card) connected at first i was unable to get the IP assigned so I tried setting up a static IP, then the connection went available, however i still don't get internet access, and I also cannot either ping the router (192.168.2.1) nor enter the setup page. Here's how i set up the static network:
The connection type depends on the ISP you have, it's normally dynamic IP. Do you have a computer that is connected to the router using an ethernet cable and one of the LAN ports on the router? If so try going onto the router's setup page, go into MAC address and click on "Clone" then apply the changes.
This should send the MAC address of your PC to the ISP not the MAC of the router and that way the ISP will authenticate the router and let it connect to the internet.
Again this depends on the ISP in question, if your PC used dynamic IP addressing (DHCP) before you connected a router then the router will have to use it aswell or the ISP won't authorise the connection. The easiest way to see if the internet is working is to look in the top right of the router's settings page, next to internet status. Hopefully it should say "connected" after you do this
