Default Connected.. but not?

Little problem:

I have a wireless network, and it is connected. On the access point PC it says "Connected to Wireless Network, Speed 54MBPS, Signal Strength: Excellent, Status: Connected." Howeer, my speed is extreeemley slow, and usually takes a long time to load things, and my ping is very high on games.

Access point is a Hawking 802.11G PCI card and the router is a D-Link 802.11G. Internet service is Verizon FiOS

Is it still slow when connecting via Ethernet? With problems like this there are many factors that need to be eliminated before the actual issue(s) can be found.

If it is the wireless network itself, try changing the channel to see if it is interference.
