Dell 1470 Wireless Card connecting to Linksys Wireless-G Router
Okay I'm stumped. I have a new Dell Inspiron B130 Laptop with a Dell 1470 Wireless Card. The wireless card works great in hotels, airports, etc.
At home I have a Dell desktop with a Linksys Wireless G Router. I cannot for my life get the wireless card to connect to the wireless router. The signal strength is great. I've put the Network Authentication Key in and it doesn't error out. It just never connects.
There was no manual that came with the Wireless Card - it was already installed.
The one thing common about all the public hotspots and hotels is that they have no encryption on them. Have you tried turning off the security on your Linksys?. Some wireless client adaptors do not support all of the wireless security standards. If it works ok without security on then you are best to try WEP 64bit first as all cards out there will support that. Some client adaptors need their driver updated before they will work with WPA-PSK, also within the WPA-PSK encrytption some only support AES and some TKIP.
I have had the problem you describe and this has been one of the solutions in the past.
If it is a standard Linksys this might work.
Connect Ethernet cable from laptop to router.
log into the router by typing in its gateway address, you can check this by looking at the "support" tab in the Status box of the Ethernet network connection.
It might be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2
Default user name is normally "admin" and password is "admin" by default.
If you get in the router go to the "Wireless" tab and select "Wireless Security"
I would suggest selecting the most basic security "WEP 64bit" as almost all client adaptors support this.
Then enter a 10 digit Hex number, These numbers would include "0123456789ABCDEF"
Then select save settings and try and log in with your laptop with the wireless card.
If this does not work try and disable the security.
If it still does not work then a factory reset is the last resort.
