Ethernet OK, wireless not

Hi,

Ihave just received my Livebox from Wanadoo. Have managed to connect to the Internet on the laptop via my ethernet cable.

I am however having problems with setting up the laptop wirelessly. I have entered the WEP key but after commencinng the process, the connections wizard status remains as acquiring network address.

My router is working properly seeing as I can get a wired connection through it. I am sure I haven't got the network key wrong after a million attempts. Can anyone help?

Also, my desktop doesn't have an ethernet port. Will a wireless adapter suffice to get a connection?

Have you tried setting up a wireless connection without using WEP?

It eventually worked, though I have no idea what the problem was. Cheers for reply anyway. Are my assumptions on the adapter being necessary for the desktop correct or can I get an ethernet to USB adapter?

You will need some sort of network adapter to connect, yes
