Default Extending my wireless network with NetGear WG602v4

Hi all,

I recently bought a wireless access point (NetGear WG602 v4) to increase the range of my network but I've been unable to set it up correctly. My network involves a wireless, Linksys router which doubles as an ADSL modem and connects to my ISP. The PCs in the network use wireless, Netgear, network cards to connect to the router and the Internet.

Thus far, I've only changed the operating mode of the WAP so that it's in "repeating mode" and have registered the MAC address of the router. The WAP sees the router but when I connect to the WAP's network, I can't communicate with the router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello a_User

I have also come accross this problem when trying to setup customers Wlans and extend the range, I have mostly tried to use it with Netgear thinking that Netgear to netgear will work, Although I havn't yet got one to work corretly, They normally can find the Wireless Lan and let you put the Security Code in but then doesn't seem to take the Computer on when it should be in range, When you first look at the netgear site it says it can extend the network, However what the call extending isn't what most people want, They invisage the Repeater working with another of the same models basically connecting two networks together similar to a network bridge but they don't really make it clear.

What you will need is a network range extender there are two that comes to mind, One is the Linksys and another it the Hawking Technology Range extender
Allwireless.co.uk Wireless Networking and Home Automation for Home and Business Hawking HWREG1 Wireless-G Range Extender, I would recommend the Hawking because it is really easy to setup, When i setup the Linksys especially when you are using a secured network then the linksys take a bit of getting right.

I Hope this Helps
