Keep having to repair my connection

Hi, I use a cox cable wireless connection. I keep getting this annoying problem where my internet just randomly cuts out and then comes back on again--sometimes I have to go to "repair" the connection. This happens a lot, literally within minutes. I was having an AIM conversation with one of my friends and the connection cut out something like 2 times in 4 minutes.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I am thinking it could be the fact that the cord is very long from the router to the computer, as it extends all throughout the house to the garage where the computer is kept. Perhaps its the length of the cord?

I've tried disconnecting/unplugging the connection, but still to no avail.

My apologies if I'm not including enough information, I'm not sure what to include. I actually don't know a lot about computers/internet connections. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
