hey all, im a mac guy, the wife owns a pc (HP Pavillion dv5000 laptop, running windows XP home, 1G ram, and 1.57 GHz AMD Turion64 mobile processor) A few days back she opened an attached text file in firefox, which she recieved from a person she didn't know (we've had a long talk about this, i assure you

The next day the computer did not connect to the internet, although it is connected to the wireless network. it will connect to any wireless hotspot, but it still wont load any pages in internet explorer or firefox. if i go to update software it will tell me i'm not connected to the internet, although it shows a full signal on the network connection.
i downloaded smitfraudfix and malwarebytes on my macintosh, then transferred them over via flash drive to her machine, and cleaned out all the nasties (at least i hope) and its still having the same problem.
Any help is graciously appreciated as my knowledge of windows and its wireless protocol is very limited.

P.S. I don't believe it is a firewall issue, as the windows firewall is turned off, and i can't turn it on again anyways because it says its "controlled by group policy"
