I have an HP/Compaq Presario V6200 laptop that is out of warranty so HP will not assist me in any way. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and shortly thereafter my wifi card stopped showing up in device manager. The wifi indicator light shows orange regardless of the switch position. I went to safe mode and the card suddenly showed up and the machine loaded the driver and the card worked fine until I left safe mode, but upon rebooting the card hasn't shown up since. I pulled the card and reseated it to no avail. I have been told the card must be dead if it is not showing in device manager. I bought an Atheros AR9280 N wifi card on eBay (the seller didn't know if the card would work in my machine or not) and installed it in the mini PCI-e slot that the original wifi card occupied. This card does not show up in device manager and the wifi indicator light stays orange regardless of the switch position. USB wifi adapters work perfectly (that's how I am on line now). Am I overlooking something, or could this be a problem with the mini PCI-e slot, or could there be some other problem I'm not aware of? This is definitely NOT a driver problem, I have done every possible senario related to drivers. I bought the Atheros because I wanted to upgrade to 802.11n from the oem 802.11g. It's possible the Atheros card will not work in my machine, but wouldn't it at least be detected? Please, if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it, this is driving me nuts!
